§02How x402 works支付即协议Established technology

Payment is a
status code.

HTTP has reserved 402 Payment Required since 1997. The open x402 protocol finally defines it: a server quotes a price in the response, the client retries with a signed stablecoin payment, and a facilitator settles it on-chain in seconds.
